Cricket: Devonshire Rec Defeat North Village
Central County defending champions Devonshire Recreation Club began their title defence in emphatic fashion at their home ground, overcoming North Village by 121 runs in a high-scoring encounter.
After North Village won the toss and elected to send the hosts in to bat, Devonshire Recreation Club put on a formidable batting performance, posting a daunting total of 318 before being bowled out. The innings was anchored by two explosive half-centuries. Kamau Leverock was the top scorer, smashing 79 runs off just 63 balls, a whirlwind knock that included 13 fours and 2 sixes.
Not far behind was Ricardo Brangman, who contributed a rapid 73 runs from 56 deliveries, featuring 5 fours and 6 sixes. Drewonde Bascome also added a half-century, while a generous tally of over fifty extras further bolstered the score. Derwin Adams was the pick of the North Village bowlers, returning figures of 2 wickets for just 20 runs from his 5 overs.
In response, North Village faced a monumental chase and ultimately fell well short, being bowled out for 197. Chermal Henry was the top scorer for North Village with 40 runs. The run chase was dismantled by a superb bowling effort from the Devonshire Recreation Club, led by none other than Kamau Leverock.
The all-rounder completed a magnificent individual performance by tearing through the North Village batting lineup, claiming 5 wickets for just 30 runs from 6.2 overs. Alafia Henry also played a crucial role with the ball, picking up 4 wickets for 71 runs from his 8 overs.
