Bermuda Is Love ‘BlueBermuda’ Campaign
Bermuda Is Love has announced its July 2025 campaign, #BlueBermuda, a month-long call to action in response to the escalating degradation of Bermuda’s marine environment.
A spokesperson said “Bermuda Is Love is proud to announce its July 2025 campaign, #BlueBermuda, a month-long call to action in response to the escalating degradation of Bermuda’s marine environment.
“Bermuda’s waters are the heart of our island. More than 95 percent of Bermuda’s sovereign territory lies beneath the waves, within its Exclusive Economic Zone [EEZ]. Bermuda is a marine nation, less a small island, and more a ‘big ocean’ state. Yet today, our waters face unprecedented pressures. Once-pristine coral reefs are experiencing bleaching and fragmentation under impacts of warming seas. Seagrass beds, which serve as essential nurseries for fish and invertebrates, are in steep decline. Unsustainable utilization of marine ecosystems threatens its future existence. Plastic & chemical pollution litters our beaches and poisons marine life. Rising sea temperatures, ecosystem collapse, and accumulating marine debris now haunt our coastal environment.
“But #BlueBermuda is not only about diagnosis. It is about respect, and response. It is about remembering that we are not separate from the ocean, but a crucial part of its rhythm and future. The ocean has shaped our heritage, our identity, and our very breath. It is no exaggeration to say the ocean gives us life. In return, this campaign is a gesture of gratitude, responsibility, and renewal. By cleaning our seas & shores, listening to science, engaging in collaborative dialogue, and inspiring present and future generations, we can begin to reverse the damage.
“#BlueBermuda aims to unite the community through hands-on action, education, and public engagement. Throughout July, we will host a series of events that reconnect people with the ocean. These include beach cleanups that remove damaging debris from our community’s shared spaces, while building awareness of impacts and further solutions. We will also screen a powerful locally focused film to highlight Bermuda’s marine cultural heritage, while acknowledging the need for keeping marine ecosystems flourishing in balance. A panel discussion at BUEI on the impacts of Climate Change on our oceans will bring together marine stakeholders in science, the blue economy, and policy-craft. Finally, a guided tour of the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences [BIOS] will give participants a chance to see Bermuda’s cutting-edge ocean research in action and explore additional engagement.
“We invite everyone to participate in this campaign. The ocean is our common ancestor, and our shared inheritance. But more than that, it is our teacher, our mirror, and our responsibility. In the words of oceanographer Sylvia Earle, ‘No water, no life. No blue, no green.’ The time to act is now.
